Jen has suffered since she was 12 years with epilepsy. A few years later she became insulin resistant and began having symptoms of PMS and PCOS but was not diagnosed until she was in her late 20’s.
In her late 30’s after giving birth to her first son and after gaining 80 lbs, Jen and her husband Jeff watched a documentary regarding ketogenic nutrition therapy. She began to immerse herself into hundreds of podcasts and books by many doctors and specialists regarding nutrition and lifestyle, the pros and cons of the ketogenic lifestyle. She believed there was a better solution for her epilepsy than the extreme amount of medication she was taking along with all the side effects she experienced.
Within a couple of months of beginning the ketogenic lifestyle, Jen finally began to sleep through the night. Her anxiety and panic attacks had begun to lift. She also began to lose her excess body fat. To this day, Jen has lost a total of 80 pounds and over 40 inches lost throughout her body!
After one year, Jen was finally off of the majority of her prescription medication. Anxiety and depression were gone. Afternoon crashes no longer existed. Her cycles were back to normal each month. PMS and PCOS were nowhere to be seen. Her insulin and blood sugar levels were now well regulated while eating a ketogenic diet. She has been able to keep up with her seven-year-old son whenever they are enjoying mother-son time. The best reward is the patience I am actually able to maintain when dealing with him. Motherhood!
Over five years later, Jen has begun to incorporate metabolic flexibility. This means she cycles in and out of ketosis, allowing her body to utilize glucose when available and jump right back into ketosis when glucose is used up. This is a concept she has begun to implement with clients after their initial 12 week course.
