Basics of Jen

Jen is a Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach based out of Phoenix, Arizona. Her credentials are: Primal Health Master Coach through Primal Health Institute (PHMC), Functional Blood Chemistry Specialist (FBCS), Medical Practices Specialist (CMP) and Hormone Health Coach.

Jen helps women who struggle with blood sugar crashes, insulin resistance, PCOS, PMS, and hormonal imbalances. She helps women navigate through all the “noise” in the health and wellness space and learn and adopt the right diet and lifestyle for each individual woman, her health concerns, and what works for her lifestyle and budget. Most commonly used are either a low-carb, ketogenic, or carnivore approach to eating.

Jen’s healing story

Jen has suffered since she was 12 years with epilepsy. A few years later she became insulin resistant and began having symptoms of PMS and PCOS but was not diagnosed until she was in her late 20’s.

In her late 30’s after giving birth to her first son and after gaining 80 lbs, Jen and her husband Jeff watched a documentary regarding ketogenic nutrition therapy. She began to immerse herself into hundreds of podcasts and books by many doctors and specialists regarding nutrition and lifestyle, the pros and cons of the ketogenic lifestyle. She believed there was a better solution for her epilepsy than the extreme amount of medication she was taking along with all the side effects she experienced.

Within a couple of months of beginning the ketogenic lifestyle, Jen finally began to sleep through the night. Her anxiety and panic attacks had begun to lift. She also began to lose her excess body fat. To this day, Jen has lost a total of 80 pounds and over 40 inches lost throughout her body!

After one year, Jen was finally off of the majority of her prescription medication. Anxiety and depression were gone. Afternoon crashes no longer existed. Her cycles were back to normal each month. PMS and PCOS were nowhere to be seen. Her insulin and blood sugar levels were now well regulated while eating a ketogenic diet. She has been able to keep up with her seven-year-old son whenever they are enjoying mother-son time. The best reward is the patience I am actually able to maintain when dealing with him. Motherhood!

Over five years later, Jen has begun to incorporate metabolic flexibility. This means she cycles in and out of ketosis, allowing her body to utilize glucose when available and jump right back into ketosis when glucose is used up. This is a concept she has begun to implement with clients after their initial 12 week course.

Why did Jen become a health coach?

After finally finding the solution to several life-long problems, Jen found a new passion in life. She dove deep into the science behind why certain foods work well in her body and why others do not. She learned why the conventional “wisdom” is different from what the truth and science actually say. After being infuriated that all this information was never explained to her years earlier, she decided she wanted to make it her life mission to help other women to live life to their fullest ability by regaining their health.

When coaching with Jen, she does not just give you instructions and expect you to carry them out. She works WITH you to co-create goals. Many people tend to give up after the third to fourth week of trying different diets. In Jen’s program, she helps her clients learn how to make this way of eating an actual lifestyle choice rather than another quick weight loss plan.

Her role as health coach is to support you in developing an action plan that will get you to your goal.

Jen’s passions and hobbies

Jen loves going to the gym to build the organ of longevity - muscle. You will always find the latest health related book on her desk as well as a variety of health podcasts downloaded onto her phone. Being half Portuguese, music is the major tool that lifts her soul and you may just see her on Instagram jamming to some tunes that bring her joy. Jen’s faith in Christ runs deep and flows throughout all she does. She has been married for 8 years, has one 7 year old boy, and a pug named Iggy.
